How to Prevent Blackheads

HOW TO PREVENT BLACKHEADS - by Editor

Blackhead is a common skin problem. The skin problems like blackheads can be treated using home remedies. Read on to find tips for preventing blackheads.

Blackheads are like acne and appear on the skin. Hence, acne treatment and prevention measures are useful to get rid of blackheads also. Before we get into prevention and treatment of blackheads let us first understand what blackheads are.

What are Blackheads?

Blackheads are minute amounts of bacteria and dirt which get accumulated in the pores of the skin. Blackheads are also known as comedones. The blackheads may also be caused due to collection of oil under the skin in which case it is referred to as acne vulgarize. Generally, noticed in the T-zone i.e. chin, nose and forehead where the hair follicles get clogged, blackheads are not easy to control.

Tips to Prevent Blackheads?

Prevention of blackheads requires almost the same kind of skin care which is required for other skin issues like pimple and acne.

To keep away majority of skin problems the first thing you must do is to ensure that your skin is free of bacteria and dirt as far as possible. Needless to say, this is easier said than done since most of us are exposed to heat, light and sun for at least a few hours every day.

Blackheads cannot be washed away by simply washing the skin. Skin specialists recommend that you wash your face 2-3 times a day with plain water. Blackheads treatment is not easy and it is not something that you can get rid of instantly. Treatment often requires a lot of time. For example, the deep pore treatment is very popular for getting rid of bacteria responsible for blackheads. While some people manage to get rid of blackheads easily after undergoing this treatment others may require long treatment which may last for months.

Natural Remedies for Blackheads

Apply Raw Garlic - One of the simplest natural remedy for removing pimples and blackheads is to apply raw garlic on it.
Tea Tree Oil and Cinnamon Remedies - Tea tree oil and cinnamon are two excellent herbal remedies to get rid of pimples and blackheads. Tea tree oil is can be used on all skin types. However, make sure to dilute it before applying directly on the skin
Blackheads can be prevented provided you are willing to devote your personal time and attention to care for your skin. To prevent blackheads from developing, following a skin care regimen which helps in reducing the amount of oil on the skin's surface is an absolute must. In case the blackheads persist even after you give natural remedies a try, you may have to consult a qualified dermatologist and seek professional treatment to prevent skin damage and scars.

How to choose Sunscreen?

Sunscreen reduces the harmful effects of sun on the skin. Sun protection factor is an important aspect to be noted while choosing a sunscreen. Read on to know how to choose a sunscreen the right way.

Damage to the skin because of sunlight builds up due to continued exposure irrespective of whether sunburn occurs or not. In addition to sunburn and skin cancer, some of the other effects of sun on the skin include
wrinkling, premature aging, and in time, an almost leather kind of skin appearance. Certain studies have also indicated that excessive exposure to UV radiation is capable of affecting the body's immune system.

Sunscreens play an important role in reducing the harmful effects of the sun. Sunscreen is available in most of the countries just like any other over-the-counter (OTC) drug. To help customers choose sunscreen best suited for their specific needs sunscreens are labeled with SPF numbers. SPF stands for 'Sun Protection Factor.' The higher the SPF, greater is the sunburn protection which the sunscreen will provide. Since the use of sunscreen by itself may not prevent the possible harmful effects of sun, it should be combined with wearing protective clothing and limiting exposure to sun as far as possible.

Effects of Applying Sunscreen

Let us understand how sunscreen protects the
skin from harmful UV light. Sunscreens absorb, scatter or reflect UV rays. Active ingredients in sunscreens like salicylates, oxybenzone, cinnamates, octylcrylene, etc are capable of absorbing UV light and prevent it from impacting the skin. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide physically reflect or scatter sunlight and direct it away from the skin.

How to Choose a Sunscreen?

Have a quick look at some practical tips for choosing the right sunscreen.

Broad Spectrum - Pick a broad-spectrum sunscreen which protects against UV-A and UV-B rays. SPF indicates UVB protection only. Broad spectrum implies that the sunscreen offers protection not only from UVB BUT from ultraviolet A (UVA) rays also. UVA rays age the skin. You can identify this by reading the product label which will specify the product type as 'broad spectrum' or 'UVA and UVB protection.'

SPF of 30 or Greater - SPF tells you how well a product will be able to block ultraviolet B (UVB) rays which are responsible for causing sunburns. An SPF of 15 screens 93% of the UVB rays and an SPF of 30 screens 97% of the UVB rays. Although a sunscreen with a higher SPF can be useful for fair complexioned people or those visiting sun intense, tropical areas, it cannot screen out 100% of UVB rays.

Water-Resistant - There is no water proof sunscreen since it is possible to wash, rub, or sweat off sunscreens. However, there are 'water-resistant' varieties available which stay on the skin much longer even if the skin becomes wet. Reapplication of water-resistant sunscreen is also a must. It is essential to reapply sunscreen approximately every 2 hours and after swimming, sweating, and toweling off.

How to Use a Sunscreen?

Read on to know how to use a sunscreen.

  • In case you plan to stay outdoors in the sun for long - three hours or more, it is essential to make use of a sunscreen which offers a sun protection factor of SPF 30 or higher.
  • It is important to go for a sunscreen which will provide protection against both ultraviolet-A and ultraviolet-B (UVA and UVB) light.
  • Sunscreen must be applied generously. Spreading a very thin a layer may not provide the required protection from the harsh sun rays.
  • In addition to sunscreen ensure to use shades and protective clothing which are popularly recommended by skin-care professionals for shielding the skin from UV light.

Conclusion

Skin care experts recommend that adults and children older than 6 months make use sunscreen. Sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for all types of skin cancers, including melanoma. The best sunscreen is one which suits your requirements and one which you will make use of. Hence, while choosing a sunscreen irrespective of whether you buy a lotion, spray, gel, wax stick, or cream make sure that you like it.

Are you coping with oily skin? Right oily skin care regimen can give you positive results. If you want to find good oily skin care regimen, read on. Find the common causes of oily skin, problems associated with oily skin and tips for taking care of your oily skin right here.

Oily skin is a problem faced by many men and women. Oily skin can be caused by a number of factors, but thankfully there are remedies to deal with oily skin. Oily skin can make your skin look excessively shiny.

Oiliness of skin can result in blockage of pores, leading to formation of pimples. Generally it is during adolescence that teenagers are plagued with problems of
oily skin and acne breakouts, but sometimes it can continue up to adult years. Here are some tips to deal with oily skin.

Causes of Oily Skin

The problem of oily skin can affect a number of people irrespective of sex, way of life or geographic location. Poor facial cleansing habits, humidity and even exposure to
cigarette smoke can be responsible for oily skin.

Both men and women can suffer from oily skin. Sebaceous glands in the pores of the skin produce an oily substance called sebum to keep your skin moisturized. Oily skin is caused when more sebum is produced.

Additionally pregnancy, women going through menopause or those taking birth control pills have greater chances of developing oily skin. A poor diet, genes and hormones are also known to contribute to oily skin.

Problems of Oily Skin

One of the major disadvantages with oily skin is that it tends to accumulate more dust and dirt than
dry skin. This causes clogged pores which results in formation of acne and blackheads. If you suffer from oily skin, you might find that your makeup wears off more easily and your skin turns greasy soon after a shower. Your skin always appears shiny, coarse and dull colored. Your pores are more visible and your face always wears a lifeless, greasy look.

Tips for Dealing with Oily Skin

Have a quick look at the tips for dealing with oily skin.

Diet for Oily Skin

Since a possible reason for your oily skin could be deficiency of Vitamin B5 and B2, include foods which contain these vitamins in your diet. Foods like lemons and kiwifruits, beans, nuts and whole grains should be a part of your diet. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day to keep your skin hydrated. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits.

Facial Cleansing Regimen

Wash your face three to four times a day with a mild and fragrance free cleanser. Keep your face very clean always but do not scrub it too hard. Use oil free products to cleanse your face. Avoid harsh soaps and instead use soaps made from natural ingredients like Aloe Vera based soaps. You can also choose a light medicated soap. Applying clay masks or mud masks on your face is also known to be an effective treatment for oily skin.

Toning and Moisturizing for Oily Skin

Toning is essential only if you are suffering from extremely oily skin.
However certain alcohol contained in toners can dry out the skin too much which is why people with severely oily skin need to use a toner just once a week or so. For people with oily skin, opt for a toner with alcohol as a component rather than a non alcoholic product. As for moisturizing, luckily people with oily skin do not have to worry too much about daily moisturizing. Water based moisturizers which have a light, non-greasy feel are great for oily skin.

Benefits of Oily Skin

Do not get too worried about your oily skin. There is some good news as
well for those suffering from oily skin. It has been found that those with oily skin are less prone to wrinkles and lines in old age. When they grow older, their skin looks younger as compared to those with dry skin.

Oily skin gets tanned more evenly and uniformly leaving you with an enhanced natural appearance. Also, as compared to dry skin, oily skin is easier to treat. Regular care and the right type of treatment will give you good results.

  1. Exfoliate your Skin - It is good to prepare a homemade skin peal for exfoliation as this will have no side effects and will work well on your skin. This will help you get rid of dead skin and promote new cells to develop. Give an interval of at least three days after doing the peal therapy. Use cold creams and avoid giving your skin sun exposure during this period.
  2. Use natural Scrub - This will remove all dead cells. However, there is no need to be harsh with the scrub. Make use of the scrub gently. You can use moisturiser after this. Give a break of three days or you can wait for a week also.
  3. Skin Whitening - Now it is the time to use skin whitening and here too you should prefer natural skin whitening. This will rejuvenate your skin and help you get a fair complexion as well. Wait for one day and then proceed with step four.
  4. Tightening of Skin - This is usually done in the evening and you can put the natural skin tightening solution for one hour. Remove the pack and apply cold cream and just go to sleep. Next morning wash your face with cold water.
If you use these four steps of skin whitening measure and make use of natural face packs, you will definitely see positive results and get back your fairness as well.
